Abstract
:
Analytical techniques to solve the partial differential equation representing advection – diffusion of pollutants within the atmospheric planetary Boundary Layerare analysed in this thesis. We developed a new model through which we considered the ground as an absorber – reflector surface for the pollutants deposited. Another approach has been analysed in which the ground is considered as a perfect reflector for the pollutants. This approach is validated with the data sets obtained from a diffusion experiment carried out at the Northern part of Copenhagen ( Denmark ). A comparison between the present model and both the experimental data of Copenhagen and Gaussian plume model (GPM ) showed a good agreement. As an application of the most wide – spread atmospheric dispersion model, GPM , we studied the dispersion of pollutants released from the Power Plant of Saudi - Aramco in Dharan – Atmospheric thermal stability classes for the city of Dharan have been calculated, which are used to estimate the ground – level concentrations of : Nitrogen, Carbon dioxide, Methane and Ethane at various distances away from the Power Plant location. These calculations are performed for the pollutants released during one year (2007). The values of maximum ground level concentration of the pollutants and the positions at which these values occur, have been calculated for the considered year.
